New version of Gmail: Presentation of new products

A new version of Google’s email has just come out. This e-mail to millions of users who had not received updated for a very long time (If we do not count the Inbox Service)!

This update brings many new features and a slightly more agile interface, we will see in this article the new features, but also how to move to this new version.

Customize the reception of email

Gmail offers new features that allow you to adapt the Gmail web interface a bit more to your wishes and preferences.

Customize the presentation of email in your inbox

Now it is possible to customize the space occupied in the screen of the input tray. On the transition to the new version, it will be possible to choose between three modes.

  • Default
  • Normal
  • Compact

At any time you can modify this point of view ‘in the menu’ Screen density settings’

Personally, I prefer the compact view, but the default view has the advantage of stopping access to the attachment without having to open your email, an advantage that is not negligible.

With or without a menu?

No, I do not speak here about the test hamburger menu, but from the Gmail side menu. Now you have the option to hide the menu to have more space for viewing the emails. An example is the following:

Google Calendar is now integrated with Gmail

This … I’ve waited a long time! It’s finally here! It is not necessary to leave Gmail to access the Google Calendar application. The application Calendar, but also Keep, Tasks and add-ons are now integrated with Gmail.

Add-ins allow you to add additional functionality to the Gmail account.

Do more without leaving your inbox

With this new version, Gmail allows you to be more effective in managing your e-mails. For example, you can view your attachments without having to open the email in question. But you will also have the ability to archive, delete, mark the message as read or unread, or place it on hold, without having to open the email.

Hoping precisely, let’s talk about that. This is one of the novelties of this version. This queue allows you to defer the screen of the email message at a later date or time. Here you will find more information about the queue of an email. If you need, you can find all messages queued for a new category called “waiting”.

Response and follow-up suggestions

Also called “Smart Response“, the response suggestions were already available in the mobile application. They are now available in the new web version of Gmail and allow you to respond more quickly to your emails. You can complete the answer or not.

Automatic reminders

In this new version of Gmail, you can see old emails displayed at the top of your inbox, by which you are asked for a reply, or to apply a follow-up. This is the Gmail / Google algorithm, which analyzes all the mail (and of the harvest, obviously, a lot of information about you and your habits) and, therefore, knows if the answer to your email that is wait.

To hide the suggestions:

  1. At the top right, click Settings Settings.
  2. In the “Automatic Reminders” section, uncheck the option box for Suggest e-mails to reply or Suggest e-mails that require follow-up.

The privacy mode

The privacy mode is one of the main novelties of this update. Unfortunately, it has not yet been implemented at the moment. As you can read below, this function will be implemented in the coming weeks.

This privacy mode allows you to remove the option to transfer, copy, download or print the messages you have sent, which is useful when you need to send confidential information by email, such as an income statement or other confidential information. You can also make sure that a message expires after a defined period of time to help you maintain control of your information. However, I am looking forward to seeing how this service can work if the person in front does not use Gmail.

How to activate the new version of Gmail?

Now you can try the new version of Gmail.

From your favorite browser, navigate to Gmail, then click in the upper right corner under “Settings Try the new version of Gmail.”

And since it’s new, you still have the possibility to go back and go back to the previous version always from the configuration, and then click “Go back to the Gmail classics”.
